Programmed by the Newark Downtown District, Championship Plaza will offer an outdoor café where people can bring their lunch or purchase food from one the local restaurants, including Uber Burger cooking on the grill, setting up on-site as food vendors. The café will operate, weather permitting, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., into October. Conveniently located next to the Prudential Center, it is easily accessible to tenants of the Gateways, Riverfront Center, The Legal Center, PSE&G, Prudential, the Newark National Building, and many other offices, retail stores, and residential units in the downtown.

Each Tuesday there will be a Farmers Market and "Karaoke Fridays" to end the week! Come and join us weekly for a flurry of entertainment, open-skies, and the beautiful cityscape of downtown Newark.

Take a break at the NDD Beaver Street Café—an outdoor café on a classic brick paved road on Beaver Street in downtown Newark. The café features 18 tables and seats beneath colorful umbrellas offering a place to sit and enjoy your lunch or simply have a coffee from one of the many businesses surrounding the area, including Scully’s, a local tavern on Clinton Street who has agreed to provide outdoor service to customers who choose to dine in the Beaver Street Café.

The café is open for public use during the lunch hours of 11:00 am through 2:00 pm Monday through Friday and is located between Clinton and Market Streets. Other features include special events such as “Karaoke Wednesdays” and a "Gourmet Lunch Truck Food Court". The scenery is a Newark historical setting with recent improvements such as newly installed benches and bicycle racks, decorative lighting fixtures, and freshly bloomed annuals in beautiful planters lining the street.

Historically this farmers market was held at Military Park for the past 10 years, however with the anticipated construction of the park in 2011, the NDD worked to move the venue to this private property. On May 24, 2011, the deal was finalized to hold the farmers market in PSE&G Plaza, and Thursday, June 30, 2011 was the opening day. Everyone loves the ambiance of the space with the trees, reflection pool, and fountain. There are even more vendors this year than last year, and an even larger variety of goods such as fresh produce, breads, pickles, perogies, quiches, fresh beef and poultry, gourmet nuts and dried fruits, exotic teas, spices, homemade soaps and body oils, as well as many vendors there to provide information to families, seniors, and students. The NDD Farmers Market continues to be a huge success.

Held every Thursday from June through October from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the open-air market brings so much into the heart of downtown Newark where there are no grocery stores to buy these items. The farmers also accept vouchers from the WIC and senior citizen’s program.

Walk for the health of it! The free and friendly NDD Walking Club has kicked off for 2010!

The Newark Downtown District’s Walking Club is a FREE & FRIENDLY walking group, so bring friends or make friends and get healthy with us! The walks, led by a certified personal trainer and one of our own NDD Ambassadors, incorporate light upper body and cardio exercises throughout to increase your fitness level and keep you motivated. Each day (Monday through Friday) the NDD Walking Club Trainers lead two (2) separate 60-minute walks and one (1) 30-minute walk, with the first walk beginning at 11:30 am. Everyone is welcome to participate in any or all of the daily walks. The NDD Walking Club walks fifteen (15) different routes throughout Downtown Newark. Once you become a member, you will receive a Club Member bag that contains a NDD Walking Club t-shirt, water bottle, pedometer, and wrist band.
